Suffering

When Lord Buddha spoke about suffering, he wasn't referring simply to superficial problems like illness and injury, but to the fact that the dissatisfied nature of the mind itself is suffering. No matter how much of something you get, it never satisfies your desire for better or more. This unceasing desire is suffering; its nature is emotional frustration.

Suffering is the basic lot of mankind. The only way to end suffering is by purifying the mind. The individual creates his own suffering and it is he alone who can end it.

It is not the eye, nor the ear, which hold us bound to the wheel of suffering, nor is it the things perceived by the eye, or the ear. It is the desire of the one for the other that is the fetter. If the eye and the ear are not attached to things seen and heard, then there is no sorrow or suffering.

Suffering arises from desiring, wanting and craving. One escape from the burden of suffering when one is liberated from your self and its desires.

Suffering follows the evil act as the wheel of the cart follows the foot of the ox that draws it.

This is really brilliant.
Man creates kinetic sculpture that moves and lives on its own.

Life

There comes a time in your life when you have to let go of the life you planned and live the life you were meant to live.

The effectiveness of a life, like a field, depends not only upon what grows in it but also what is not allowed to grow in it.

The road of life can only reveal itself as it is traveled; each turn in the road reveals a surprise. Man’s future is hidden.

If you tell life what it has to be, you limit it; But if you let life show you what it wants to be, it will open doors you never knew existed.

You do not need all the answers to be successful in life. You only need to be adjustable as you cruise along.

Know where you are going in life. Purpose is what gives life a meaning. A life that has not a definite plan is likely to become driftwood.

Slow down! Take time to appreciate nature, chat with a friend, or read a chapter from a good book. There is more to life than running non-stop.

Life cannot give us joy and peace; it is up to us to will it. Life gives us time and space; it is up to us to fill it.

My formula for living is quite simple. I get up in the morning and go to bed at night. In between I occupy myself as best I can.

Your life ends when your body stops functioning. However, keeping your body alive alone does not equate to living.

The ability to handle life is simply the ability to handle one’s own mind. We fail first in thought and only afterward in action.

He who postpones the hour of living is like the rustic who waits for the river to run out before he crosses.

If you have not the strength to impose your own terms upon life, you must accept the terms it offers you.

‘Uncertainty’ is the key word in our lives. We must live with uncertainty and steer our ship through life’s perilous paths.

Make the best of everything in life. Do not waste life in doubts and fears. When shall we live if not now?

You should not go through life with a catcher’s mitt on each hand. You need to be able to throw something back.

The rhythm of life is intricate but orderly, tenacious but fragile. To keep that in mind is to hold the key to survival.

Gossips

If prostitution is the oldest profession, gossip must be the oldest social past time. Let’s face it. We all gossip. There are few who don’t. The world will be very quiet indeed if people don’t gossip.

When we meet up with friends, what do we do? We trade information on what is going on in our lives, what has happened with us. And we inevitably ended up talking about other people as well - people who are associated with us - like, our mutual friends, colleagues, family etc. It is through this exchange of information that we are updated on the people, events, and things happening around us.

Generally, most gossips are just harmless digs at the expense of the people we know. There is no malice intended. Troubles start when we said more than we should - like when we pass sensitive information, or information that were meant for our ears only.

So, a line must be drawn when gossiping. We must not divulge sensitive information. If you are unsure whether you should make known certain facts to all and sundry, don’t. If you think that a particular juicy piece of gossip might annoy or hurt someone, then, it is better to hold your tongue. Always be mindful of other people’s feelings, And another thing, no spreading of untruth when gossiping.

- Vincent Thnay

Happiness

The world is full of people looking for spectacular happiness while they snub contentment.

No one is guaranteed happiness. Life just gives us time and space. It is up to us to fill it with joy and meaning.

Almost all of our unhappiness is the result of comparing ourselves to others.

Happiness or unhappiness lies not in the events themselves, but in the way one feels about them and reacts towards them.

If a person has happiness, he has the life-power to live fully. He is alive, so to speak.

Happy are those who can give without remembering and take without forgetting.

It is not easy to find happiness in ourselves, and it is not possible to find it elsewhere.

The happiness we all seek can only be achieved through self control, not material possessions.

It always pays to put others before yourself. It is the path to true happiness.

The first recipe for happiness is: Avoid too lengthy meditations on the past.

A person should so live that their happiness shall depend as little as possible on external things.

He alone is the happy man who has learned to extract happiness not from ideal conditions but from actual ones about him.

Do not let anyone hold your happiness in their hands, – hold it in yours so it will always be within your reach.

It is pretty hard to tell what brings happiness; poverty and wealth have both failed.

True happiness is not to achieve our goals but to learn to be satisfied with what we already achieved.

Food For Thought

Fact of the matter is, there is no hip world, there is no straight world. There’s a world, you see, which has people in it who believe in a variety of different things. Everybody believes in something and everybody, by virtue of the fact that they believe in something, use that something to support their own existence. - Frank Zappa

People may change their minds as often as their coats, and new sets of rules of conduct may be written every week, but the fact remains that human nature has not changed and does not change, that inherent human beliefs stay the same; the fundamental rules of human conduct continue to hold. - Lammot du Pont

The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers. - M. Scott Peck

Are You Drinking Enough Water?

Water - arguably the most powerful healing substance known to man

Many of us know that an average healthy adult needs to drink at least 8 glasses or 2 litres of water a day, and that the average person cannot survive for more than a few days without water. But do we know why?

Why we need water

Water is needed to regulate body temperature, control basic functions, lessen the burden on the kidneys and liver by flushing out body waste, lubricate joints and assist in the transportation of nutrients to our cells.

When our body doesn’t get enough water, dehydration occurs. The results of dehydration are many and varied but some symptoms include a drop in brain function, slow metabolism, fuzzy short-term memory and bad breath

Other negative effects include arthritis, loss of muscle tone, excess weight gain, dry skin, migraines, hypertension, digestive complications, and persistent constipation. Over time, more serious complications can arise, such as incre3ased toxicity and even organ failure.

Water and the Kidneys

Dehydration can be extremely damaging for the kidneys, especially for senior citizens, as their kidney functions may have deteriorated to some degree.

A healthy adult’s kidneys excrete approximately 2 litres of urine and waste per day. When there is not enough water intake, there is nothing in which to flush the body’s waste products such as uric acid and urea. As such, these substances build up in the body, leading to kidney stones and putting additional strain on the kidneys. Over time, toxins can build up within the body, leading to many types of complications.

Maintaining a healthy water diet

There are a few things you can do to ensure you get sufficient water daily:

* Never wait until you feel thirsty before you start drinking, because by then you are already mildly dehydrated.

* What you can do is to buy yourself a couple of 1-litre flasks, lwave one at home and bring the other to work. Fill the flasks with water and make sure you finish them every day.

* Eat plenty of fruits and green vegetables as about 20% of water can come from our diet.

* If you are going to be outdoors, bring along a water bottle to keep yourself hydrated; after exercising, drink at least a glass of water to replenish moisture lost through perspiring.

* If you work in an air-conditioned area, it is even more important to monitor your water intake as the dry air can cause rapid water loss.

Do this and be on your way to a healthier lifestyle today?

Life

Live your life to the fullest! This is not a rehearsal. You will never live this day again.

There is no shortcut to life. To the end of our days, life is a lesson imperfectly learned.

Life’s blows cannot break a person whose spirit is warmed at the fire of enthusiasm.

It is not what you have in your life but who you have in your life that counts.

Wake up with a smile and go after life. Live it, enjoy it, taste it, smell it, feel it.

The prime time of life is that fleeting moment between green and over ripe.

The value of life lies, not in the longest of days, but in the use we make of them.

If you would live your life with ease; do what you ought, not what you please.

Be careful how you live; you may be the only Bible some people ever read.

There must be more to life than sitting wondering if there is more to life.

He is blessed over all mortals who loses no moment of the passing life.

The best way to succeed in life is to act on the advice we give to others.

To expect life to be tailored to our specifications is to invite frustration.

All life is an experiment, the more you experiment, the better your life.

The two certainties in life are:- that we will die one day, and change.

No one ever ruined his eyesight by looking at the bright side of life.

The true riches of Life are hidden in the hearts and minds of man.

The meaning of life cannot be told; it has to happen to a person.

Live so that your friends can defend you, but never have to.

Good life starts only when you stop wanting a better one.

By having a reverence for life, we enter into a spiritual relation with the world. By practicing reverence for life we become good, deep, and alive. - Albert Schweitzer

I can do no other than be reverent before everything that is called life. I can do no other than to have compassion for all that is called life. That is the beginning and the foundation of all ethics. - Albert Schweitzer

Food For Thought

I have no desire to move mountains, construct monuments, or leave behind in my wake material evidence of my existence. But, in the final recollection, if the essence of my being has caused a smile to have appeared upon your face or a touch of joy within your heart . . . Then in living – I have made my mark. - Thomas L. Odem

The successful producer of an article sells it for more than it cost him to make, and that’s his profit. But the customer buys it only because it is worth more to him than he pays for it, and that’s his profit. No one can long make a profit producing anything unless the customer makes a profit using it. - Samuel B. Pettengill

There are two primary forces in this world, fear and faith. Fear can move you to destructiveness or sickness or failure. Only in rare instances will it motivate you to accomplishment. But faith is a greater force. Faith can drive itself into your consciousness and set you free from fear forever. - Norman Vincent Peale

Of Life

The Simple Life

To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter; to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird’s nest or a wild flower in spring – these are some of the rewards of the simple life. - John Burroughs
